Intelligence Officer MGC at Kilmallock

 

1917 Jan 26 Commissioned 2nd Lt in MGC

 

1920 Dec. The IRA managed to ambush him at Red Gate, Kilmallock, but he was apparently wearing body armour under his clothes and escaped without being wounded

 

1921 Apr 16. Awarded MBE "in recognition of gallant conduct in the performance of military duties"

1921 Jul 10. Two British officers in mufti were travelling from Kilmallock (MGC base) and Kilfinnane in Limerick. They were ambushed at Ballingaddy. They managed to return fire, and escaped, but one, Lt H A Brown was wounded. Brown had been an effective Intelligence Officer and the IRA had made several attempts to kill him
