Regimental Intelligence Officers


Each Regiment had an Intelligence Oficer. This was a dangerous job, and a number were shot by the IRA, and others had to leave Ireland lest they suffered the same fate.
Regimental IOs were targeted by the IRA and after the truce a number were specifically withdrawn from Ireland because of the dangers to them

- Dove IO Hampshire Regt 1922 Apr 26 kidnapped and shot at Kilgobnet
- Egan P Brigade Intelligence Officer Roscommon
- Ferguson Davie WC Yorkshire Regt
- Grazebrook RM Gloucestershire Regt gets OBE
- Gubbins C There is no open page relating to Gubbin’s service in Ireland 2-11-1919 to 27-9-1922
- Kelly CJO'C Division IO for 6th Division Cork gets OBE
- Hall BAEM Northamptonshire Regt
- Henderson IO Yorkshire Regt 1922 Apr 26 kidnapped and shot at Kilgobnet
- Hammond must have been IO for 17th Infantry Brigade, he had a GG Special Appointment and OBE on Apr 1 1921 for Clonmult action.
- Hendy 1922 Jan 28. His record says that he was appointed Intelligence Officer at HQ 17th Infantry Br.

- Vining 1921 Jun 27 The Manchester's Intelligence Office, Lt Vining, found out that some wanted IRA men would be in a pub at Waterfall. He appears to have become IO for Manchesters on death of Thompson
- Wallace CC , Adjutant Mullingar. Probably not Intelligence
- Yeo FC Devonshire Regiment
- Lt W Glossop, Lt RF Bettridge and Lt A H C Toogood shot at Fethard were probably IOs
