Looks like a revenge killing for Thomas Satchwell . A Protestant RIC Constable shot in Donegal on 22 Feb 1921 and buried in Tarmon a few days later. Patrick Conry was shot the same night as James Monds, and at that shooting one of the murders was heard to say it was in revenge for Satchwell

Jaes Mods seem to have been chosen because the men could not get their original target, his eldest son. As Monds was a Protestant . I am unclear why his family was chosen
