Charles Robert Hall/Henry Folkes Hall

1873 He was born Henry Folkes Hall in Bath and baptized as Charles Robert Hall in May 1874. He appears under the latter name in the 1881 and 1891 census returns when he was living in Bath with his grandparents. He is also married under this name when he married Ethel in 1894. After he and Ethel had moved to Bristol, the name Henry F. Hall appears again on the 1901 census return. His name once again reverts to Charles Hall in 1911 when he and his family are living at 15 Beaufort Road. In the 1918 electoral register he is living at the same address but using an amalgam of both names - Charles Robert Henry Folkes Hall. . On the face of it he was very ordinary person whose various occupations are given assistant bell hanger, gasfitter, plumber and bakery engineer! Unsurprisingly there are two death records for Charles Robert Hall and Henry Folkes Hall (the same person) in Bristol at the same time in 1938.

1938 May 11- 2 deaths registered. One can be sure that the 2 deaths in 1938 are the same man. He lived as Charles Robert, but was born as Henry Folkes, so he had to die as both. The burial records for Bristol that have only recently been made available through Ancestry reveal that 'Charles Robert otherwise Henry Folkes Hall' (formerly of 75 Kennard Road, Kingswood) was interred in the burial ground of St. Michael the Archangel Church at Two Mile Hill

To avoid the conclusion that there could be 2 Frank Charles Hall, the bits that need explained are

1. 1964 Feb 15, I am left with the loose end of the Death of Frank Charles Hall of 52 Colebrook Rd, Kingswood, Bristol with an implied date of birth in 1896 . He could be the Frank Charles that has been raced from 22 Dec 1895 birth

2. There is an overlap in Military records. Frank Charles Hall discharged from Royal Defence Corps Sgt 71934 in Apr 1919. But Robert James Neill“s record shows he had already enlisted in Feb 1918. In other words between Feb 1918 and Apr 1919 both identities were serving in the Army.
