The 1st battalion RMF was called back from Rangoon at the outbreak of World War One, and stationed at home prior to its despatch to Gallipoli where it took part in the initial landings of 25 April 1915.The Munsters would remain in Gallipoli throughout the campaign, and would be evacuated in January 1916. 1921 Jan 23. Shot Cork body never found
1922 Jan . Catherine Ray (or Rea was used in court) and four of her sons were awarded compensation at the Cork quarter sessions for the death of Patrick Ray at the hands of the IRA. According to the Cork Examiner , she was granted £1,200 ‘for the loss of her husband, and each of her four children, the oldest of whom is aged 15 years, was granted £200.
